A 45-year-old civil servant, Duru Olayinka was yesterday arraigned before the Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada, for criminal trespass and mischief, contrary to sections 342 and 326 of the Penal Code respectively.
The police prosecutor, Modupe Musa, told the court that on November 30, 2012, one, Margareth Jethro of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT), Abuja?? lodged a complaint at the Area Command office, Gwagwalada against the accused.
According to the prosecutor, the complainant reported that she owns a 500 sqm plot of land located at the Kutunku 2 extension layout in Gwagwalada and but on one of her visits to the area in September 2012, she noticed that the plot of land had been trespassed upon.
Musa said the complainant, upon investigation, found that the accused of Jeremiah Useni Road, Gwagwalada, had encroached on the land and destroyed her beacons valued at N10,000 and built a piggery? farm? on the land.
After the charges were read to her by the court, the accused pleaded not guilty and begged the court through her counsel, Chinwe Asoronye, to grant her bail.
The Judge, Babangida Hassan, granted her bail in the sum of N200,000 with a surety in like sum who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court addingthat if she? fails to meet with the bail bond, she should be remanded in prison custody.
The case was adjourned to April 8, for hearing.
