A 28-year-old man, Emeka Chimereze, who allegedly stole an hp laptop valued at N120, 000 was on Friday charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Emeka, who resides at Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, ASP Austine Onwuemene, said that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 4 at 6 a.m. at the A.B.C. Transport Ltd., Terminal at Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.
Onwuemene told the court that the accused stole the laptop property of Mr Philip Bassey, a passenger.
The prosecutor said that Chimereze strayed into the bus terminal and surreptitiously picked the bag containing the laptop where the passenger’s luggage was kept.?
He said that the offence committed contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.
The magistrate, Mr M. K. Fadeyi, granted Chimereze bail in the sum of N50,000, with a surety in like sum.
He directed that the surety should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government, adding that the surety must also be resident within the court’s jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned till March 15 for further hearing. (NAN)
