Indications emerged yesterday that aside the task of fishing out embattled chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Abdulrasheed Maina, whose whereabouts remain unknown, the Nigeria Police may have begun fresh probe into the certificates acquired by him.
After the Senate invited Maina to substantiate his allegations against some senators, the upper legislative chamber is understood to have received damaging petitions against Maina that borders on alleged impropriety of certificates which LEADERSHIP Weekend understands has been forwarded to the police.
Maina who is alleged to have mismanaged N469 billion pension fund was last week referred to the Head of Service for disciplinary action following a resolution by the Senate that he be sacked.
A source close to the Senate committee hinted yesterday in Abuja that allegations of certificate forgery against Maina have also flooded the committee after President Goodluck Jonathan’s directive.
The source said that the petitions urged the senate committee to probe Maina’s educational background thoroughly especially the academic credentials he claimed to possess and on which he relies for his progression in the federal civil service.
The source further disclosed that the petitions alleged that Maina’s present rank as deputy director in the federal service raises questions about his successive promotions believed to have been manipulated.
