Recruitment Scam: NSCDC Disowns Website, Parades Undergraduate Fraudster

The leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has again dissociated itself from the various internet sites designed with its logo by criminal elements, with the sole aim of defrauding unsuspecting and desperate applicants seeking job placements into the corps.

Parading a final year student of Civil Engineering from the famous Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma (AAU), Mr. Shedrack Adugo, at its headquarters in Abuja, for allegedly operating a fake NSCDC’s recruitment website , the corps’ spokesman, Mr Emmanuel Okeh, told newsmen that the suspect was arrested at the bank when he was about to withdraw money paid in by one of his victims.

The corps spokesman further revealed that the suspect, Mr Adugo, conspired with a friend, Barry Eghige (now at-large) to set up the illegal job website, with the aim of defrauding jobseekers, saying the arrest was made possible by the bank he used for the illegal transaction.

Ekeh gave the illicit website being used by the syndicate as ‘shedman4real.com’ which also had contact phone numbers and Adugo’s Fin Bank account.

LEADERSHIP further discovered that Adugo has since denied the allegations, claiming that he was not arrested at the bank, but in his apartment.

“I am innocent; I don’t know anything about what they are saying,” he said.

Interestingly, LEADERSHIP discovered that Adugo’s phone number was one of the numbers included on the site which applicants were advised to call for directives, while the other two numbers belong to Eghige. Though Adugo denied knowing Eghige, the latter’s numbers were found in his phone.

“He asked me to borrow him my modem – which I did. I never knew he was using it to defraud people,” Adugo claimed.

Meanwhile, the NSCDC spokesman revealed that the corps, in a move to standstill, had further uncovered fresh sites and email addresses numbering 10 that are being used to defraud Nigerians.
