Men of the Joint Task Force (JTF) yesterday killed a middle aged man at the military check point at Lambar Rimi in Rimi local government area of Katsina State for allegedly trying to exchange gun fire with its operatives.
The incident occurred yesterday afternoon at the Katsina-Kano road when men of JTF on routine vehicle search stopped the man to search his vehicle.
Residents said they heard gun shots shortly after the golf vehicle conveying the deceased and one other person stopped at the check point.
Narrating the incident, a resident said, “We took to our heels when we heard gunshots because nobody was ready to take any chance.”
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, the body of the deceased was left at the road side, covered with leaves just as a golf vehicle believed to be the vehicle driven by the man was seen riddled with bullets.
As at the time of filing this report, the identity of the man was still not known.
Confirming the incident, the JTF spokesman, Ikediche Iweha told our correspondent that the soldiers killed the man in self defence insisting that the deceased pulled out weapon and tried to fire at the military men at the check point noting “our men responded and one person was killed while one was arrested”.
