An Osogbo chief magistrate’s court yesterday ordered the remand of a 66-year-old man, Ademola Obideyi, in Ilesa prison for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl.
The accused was said to have committed the offence on March 2, 2013, in his house, located opposite Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Church, Kaka area in Osogbo, the state capital.
According to the charge sheet slammed against him, he was accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl.
The police prosecutor, Sergeant Elisha Olusegun, told the court that the offence committed was punishable under Section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 34 Volume II Laws of Osun State, 2003.
The accused, who was slammed with the two-count charge of having unlawful canal knowledge and indecent assault, however, pleaded not guilty.
The defence counsel, Mr. Henry Odunayo, orally applied for the bail of the accused on the most liberal term, assuring the court that his client would provide a reliable surety if granted bail.
In his ruling, the presiding magistrate, Mr Olusola Aluko, directed that the defence counsel should file a written application for the bail of his client.
Aluko therefore ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody till April 15, 2013, for bail consideration.
