The traditional leaders of Sabongari , the scene of Monday’s suicide? bomb? attack in Kano, have called on residents to observe Wednesday as a day of fasting and prayer.
The leaders made the call on Tuesday in statement signed by Oba Yoruba Kano, Alhaji Abdullahi Salihu, under the aegis of the Ethnic Traditional Leaders Forum in Kano.
It said the call was necessitated by the desire of the people to ensure God’s guidance and protection in this trying period.
The statement condemned the act of the people behind the blast that claimed?? 22 lives and injured 65 others.
The forum also called on residents to use the day to mourn the dead and pray for the quick recovery of the injured.
It also called on the police to upgrade the security of the park to a police post.
The forum appealed for the establishment of a fire service station in the area to forestall future occurrences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that series of meetings were held by the predominantly non- indigenes residing in Sabongari with security operatives on Tuesday.
The meetings were aimed at forestalling any breakdown of law and order as a result of people’s anger over the loss of loved ones and property.
