The Minister of Niger Delta, Mr Godsday Orubebe, in Uyo on Tuesday reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment toward ensuring the completion of the East-West Road by 2014.
Orubebe made this known when he presented the ministry’s Action Plan for the development of the region to the Akwa Ibom Government.
He said the reason why the road had not been completed was because the plan was characterised by poor detail and financial plan.
“This is a project of N239 billion and only N1.2 billion was provided to the contractors by the Federal Government. We realised that there are detail plan and financial plan. Yet people wanted the project to be completed in 2010,” Orubebe said.
He said the Federal Government had to re-award the contract and “considering the work that has been done so far, the completion of the road would not go beyond 2014. The road has 52 bridges and from 2010 to now we have constructed 38 bridges and a good number of culverts have also been constructed.
“We are sure that the road will be ready in 2014,” he added.????
