Akinjide Commiserates With Awolowo’s Family

The Minister of State for FCT, Ms Olajumoke Akinjide, has commiserated with the Awolowo family over the death of Chief Oluwole Awolowo, the son of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.

This is contained in a Statement issued on Thursday in Abuja by Mr Oluyinka Akintunde, the Special Assistant (Media and Publicity) to the Minister of State for FCT.

The statement quoted the minister as expressing her heartfelt condolences to the Board, Management and Staff of the African Newspapers of Nigeria (ANN) Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, over the death of Chief Awolowo.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Chief Oluwole Awolowo was the Publisher and Vice Chairman of the ANN Plc until his death on Wednesday at Wellington Hospital, St Johns Wood, London, at the age of 70.

She stated that Awolowo’s demise was a great loss to the nation, but took solace in the fact that he left a good legacy worthy of emulation and attained a spiritual piety as a Christian.

“I commiserate with the Awolowo family and the Board, Management and Staff of the African Newspapers of Nigeria over this irreparable loss.

“I pray that the Almighty God grants him eternal rest and gives the members of his family and ANN the fortitude to bear this great loss,’’ Akinjide said.
