Team Nigeria youth athletes who cleared the gold medals in the 100 metres in both boys and girls categories of the maiden edition of the Africa Youth Athletics championship in Warri, Delta State where the IAAF instructors and other observed are eyeing making it to the Olympics. Divine Ejowvokoghene Oduduru won gold medal with the time of 10.62 seconds, Abebe Amanuel Atsibeha of Ethiopia came second with of 10.86 seconds while Adedeji ismaila Yusuf won bronze medal with the of 10.87 seconds.
In the girls category, Deborah Adewunmi Adewale ran 11.87 seconds to be crowned the African queen in 100 metres, another Cecelia Francis won bronze in 11.98 seconds while Pesse Prenom of Togo won the bronze medal in 12.25 seconds. After the keenly contested race, the African youth record holder, Deborah Adewale said that her superlative performance was based on hard work and concentration, giving God the glory for making her African junior queen in the maiden edition of the championship.
Adewale who spoke of her achievement said her goal is to improve on her timing so as to be available in 3 years time for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. “My coaches really tried on me and with the support of my parents in prayer, I really give God the glory for making it possible for me to be African Youth record holder in the girls category. I will try my best and improve on my time so that I will be able to represent Nigeria at the next Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil”
Adewale said she is ready for the World Youth Athletics Championship in Kiev in Ukraine. Athletics Federation of Nigeria president Solomon Ogba had promised the athletes would all return to camp after this championship. “I am ready for the World Youth Athletics championship in Kiev Ukraine. Right now our boss and father, AFN president, Chief Solomon Ogba has said we are going into another camping immediately after this championship to train harder and improve on our time for the task ahead.” She said.
