Obafemi Martins has dispelled fears that his sensational switch to the MLS in the USA could end his international career.
Martins has so far failed to take his chance in two comeback games for the African champions and his move to the Major League Soccer in America is believed by many to have firmly closed the door to the Super Eagles for the former Newcastle United and Inter Milan star striker.
“I have heard people say a lot about my move to the MLS marking the end of my career,” said Martins.
“But I don’t think that is true. The MLS is a fresh challenge I am happy about.”
Martins further added:”I still believe I have a future with the national team even though I was unable to find the back of the net in the game against Kenya.”
Last month, ‘Obagoal’ was brought in for injured Emmanuel Emenike in a crucial 2014 World Cup qualifier, but did not make hay as Kenya ran away with a precious 1-1 draw in Calabar.
In November, he also did not deliver in a friendly against Venezuela.
Martins has emerged as one of Nigeria’s most traveled footballers having played in Italy, Germany, Russia, Spain and England.
