The Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has said that his administration has tried to ensure fair and even distribution of posts in the public service and siting of capital projects as enshrined in the constitution.
Governor Lamido stated this at the opening of a two-day North-West Zonal Sensitization Workshop organized by the Federal Character Commission in collaboration with the Jigawa State Government at the Manpower Development Institute, Dutse over the weekend.
This was coantained in a press release signed by the public relations officer, office of the state Head of service, comrade Abdullahi Wada, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Dutse.
Governor Lamido also stated that he considered the provision of basic infrastructure such as good roads, water supply and health care facilities as important and cardinal to the development efforts of his administration.
Governor Lamido who was represented at the occasion by the State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Mustapha Aminu also stated that the state government will not relent in offering assistance to the commission to ensure that it carries out its functions without hindrance, adding that his administration considers the presence of the commission as that of a partner helping to ensure the sustenance of peaceful co-existence through justice, equity, and fair play.
He urged the commission to work harder in ensuring a fairer distribution of resources, especially that of more revenue allocation to? the state by the federal government, adding that with more revenue coming to the state, more facilities will be provided for the people.
He also enjoined the commission to? examine its activities and ensure that the state gets its fair share in respect of federal appointments in strategic ministries and departments.
In his address the Executive Chairman Federal Character Commission, Professor Oba AbdulRahman said the sensitization workshop which was aimed at the fulfillment of the constitutional mandate of the commission has been conducted at North East, South South, and North Central zones.
He said the objectives of the workshops are to gain an understanding of the functions, powers, and constitutional mandates of the commission, adding that the achievements of the commission in this regard has more than ever before led to? a growing awareness on the part of the public.
