Former president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdullahi weekend awarded full scholarship to 15 new more players of his pet project, the FOSLA Football Academy in Karshi, Abuja for the next academic session.
The lucky 15 players would emerge from 21 players that were successful and distinguished themselves at this year’s edition of the FOSLA U-13 soccer competition for the six area councils in the FCT and 14 others drawn from Kogi State in a screening exercise. The 35 players are expected to sit for a written examination on April 20, 2013 at the FOSLA Academy school premises where the best 15 among them would be awarded full scholarship of N725,000 per player per annum by the former NFF boss to combine football and academics at the FOSLA International Academy, Karshi.
Speaking at the weekend during the finals of the FCT area councils competition held at the academy ground, Lulu said his ultimate vision of putting the boys together is to mould them to excel in both academics and football. “It is a tradition now that every year we aspire to get boys at the U-13 level to participate in football competition for us to get the best among them that we can sponsor into this school (FOSLA Academy) to develop them academically and in football. This is a commercial training school but the boys that will be coming through this process will be on scholarships. We are expected to pay about N725, 000 per annum per student and our intention is to develop their talents and give them comprehensive college education so that after a football career they will have something to fall back on,” he said.
