The Glo Soccer Academy finalists on a training tour of the Manchester United Soccer Academy has defeated the Irlam and Cadished College football team by 1-0.
In an action packed 90-minute match played at the College’s pitch, the Glo Soccer Academy boys showed class and grit as they walloped their hosts. The match offered the Glo Dream Team an opportunity to practice all they had learnt in a real match situation. Irlam and Cadished College is a Manchester United- supported academy and it offers both full time sports and educational curriculum. The lone goal of the match was scored by the Most Valuable Player, Muri Lawal.? The elated boys were presented with medals at the end of the match. The team later watched the Manchester United FC Versus Manchester City match at the Old Trafford stadium.
Earlier, the Glo Soccer Academy Dream Team had attended a workshop on “Win the battle technique.”? This exposed the boys to basic strategies on team work, which they practically demonstrated in groups.
Two Manchester United Football Club coaches rigorously drilled the boys, taking them through some strategy-based games, including video clips on match strategies, mistakes and how to handle success and failures as champions.
The team was also at the Trafford Leisure Centre where they were trained on skill-based activities such as “explosive play” and “conditioned games.” The boys were also shown video clips on “containment strategies” and scoring abilities.
Also, the Dream Team were exposed to a David Beckham interview? clip on what winning means. The trainers placed emphasis on match analyses and how vital they are? for success,? especially the attacking and defensive strategies. The trainers also explained that Manchester United FC applies the 4-3-3 formation and uses the triangle format to create more openings and opportunities during matches.
Sixteen finalists emerged from thousands of participants drawn from across West Africa in the Glo Soccer Academy. Twelve of the boys from Nigeria and Benin Republic made it to the UK for the on-going training while the remaining four boys from Ghana will undergo a training tour of Dubai’s soccer academy.
