2015: Amaechi Has No Campaign Helicopters

The Rivers State government has denied media reports that Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi acquired two aircraft and two armoured helicopters in preparation for the 2015 general election.

In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP WEEKEND in Port Harcourt, the commissioner for information and communications, Mrs. Ibim Seminatari, said the media report was orchestrated by a group of disgruntled and self-serving politicians aimed at destroying the administration of Amaechi.

Seminatari said: “The attention of the government of Rivers State has been drawn to deliberate and repeated attempts by a group of disgruntled and self-serving politicians to engage in a smear campaign against the Governor Amaechi-led administration.

“As a government, we have watched with amazement as these charlatans go overboard in their attempt to concoct stories and seek relevance and cheap popularity. The latest allegation is that Governor Amaechi has acquired armoured helicopters and private jets ahead of 2015.”

Describing the report as a figment of the writer’s imagination, the commissioner stated that the state government had kept its promise to render transparent and accountable stewardship to the people of the state.

She said the state government had at several fora announced its intention to purchase two security helicopters and has only one private jet, pointing out that the state government does not intend to acquire new airplanes as being speculated.
