The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), has called on other government organizations in the country to adopt the International Standards Organization, ISO? 9001 standards.
The Corps. Marshal of the FRSC, Osita Chidoka, made this call during the official presentation of the NIS ISO 9001:2008 quality management certificate to the FRSC by the Standards Organization of Nigeria, SON, in Abuja yesterday.
The FRSC is the largest organization in Nigerian to receive the ISO certificate from the SON with over 18,000 employees and Osita has said that Nigerians should always hold FRSC responsible to always maintain the certification.
The director-general of SON, Dr. Joseph Odumodu, said during the presentation that the NIS ISO 9001:2008 approach provides a globally recognized? and acceptable solution to the challenges associated with quality management.
He also stated that the achievement by the FRSC was a giant stride in the pursuit of excellence to provide quality service, to the Nigerian public.
ISO (International Organization for Standardization) is the world’s largest developer of voluntary International Standards. International Standards give state of the art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective.
ISO develops International Standards, including management system standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 31000. However, it is not involved in the certification to any of the standards it develops. Certification is performed by external certification bodies, which are largely private.
