It was Vincent Van Gogh who once said ‘Great things are done by a series of small things brought together’.
For Nollywood starlet, Frances Peters, those small things would one day bring glory to the Nigerian movie industry.
Yeah, you might say ‘Frances Pete…who?’ But the ambitious young lady who is starting her journey in the ever growing industry thinks Nigeria will one day soon produce an Oscar winner.
“I do believe that, honestly”, she said with conviction in a chat with our Entertainment correspondent.
“Nollywood is going in a different dimension which will surprise a lot of people around the world. We do have the people who will definitely make it happen.”
She feels the icons of Nollywood, like her idols RMD, Genevieve Nnaji, Patience Ozokwor and others are always there to provide the encouragement for the up and coming ones to do their best in achieving the dream.
Looking back at her role in one of her movies, Madam 10/10, she disclosed she was in awe acting alongside Ozokwor.
“I felt really nervous at first, but felt good with her giving the encouragement and advice. With people like her, we are ready to work extra hard.
“I was kept on my toes with her. Acting with her made me want to do better. I am sure I can do better, and get a lot of roles.
“Knowing the ones who have been there, and done well, as idols is very encouraging. Their support, for me, has been immense, and I can only be thankfully.”
The Mass Communication graduate of Rivers State University of Science and Technology hinted she had always wanted to be an actress and was not discouraged by all the negative press actresses receive.
“The opportunity came, and I grabbed it. I don’t regret it at all.
“Everyone has got their opinion on that subject of sex, actresses and Nollywood. But I do think if you are good at what you do, you don’t have to sleep with anybody to get a role.”
Her mission in Nollywood?
“I see myself becoming an icon. One of the most influential ladies in the world(through nollywood). I see myself acting alongside my Hollywood role models”
Tall dreams for an up and coming starlet. Dreams that would probably made Van Gogh keep her ear.
