The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday, told a visiting delegation of UK Department for International Development that in a bid to consolidate on successes recorded in the last general elections, the commission will welcome more support for its activities.
Representing the commission’s chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega who is away in Ghana on official matters, Dr. Abdulkadir Sulaimanu Oniyangi who received the DFID delegation on his behalf said support from international partners went along way in the high marks scored the commissions conduct of the past ballots.

“The help you gave, came a long way in the successes recorded in last elections, I believe we can be better if further assistance is given” the national commissioner said.
The commission’s conduct of the April ballots was broadly scored – locally and internationally – as probably the most credible election held in decades following several sloppy attempts at same.
Earlier, the leader of the international delegation, DFID’s Head of Governance, Mr. Gareth Glentwood said his team’s visit to the commission’s headquarters was to get a first hand report of the last elections as well as gauge its preparation for future elections.
