There were strong indications yesterday that Vice President Namadi Sambo is preparing to run for the president in 2015. ?At the North-West executive committee meeting of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna yesterday, hundreds of youths wore T-shirts and face caps with the inscription, “Namadi Project”.?

Also, scores of vehicles branded with the vice president’s photograph marked “Namadi Project” transported the party faithful to the venue of the meeting. ?Most of the supporters carried banners and flyers extolling the vice president and his preparedness to vie for the presidency in 2015.

Muhammed Mustapha, who claimed to be one of the leaders of the group, said: “We are preparing for the 2015 presidential election, because it is the turn of the North and we are sure Namadi will emerge the best candidate.”
The communique of the meeting, which was signed and read by the PDP North-West zonal chairman, Ambassador Ibrahim Musa Kazaure, said the meeting deliberated on the forthcoming party congress and national convention and called on the members to ensure that the ongoing party membership drive succeeded.

It also resolved to prepare for elections in Sokoto and Katsina states and, to that effect, constituted the zonal election committee to strategize on ways of winning elections in the two statesWhile declaring the meeting open, Sambo stated: “We should muster enough strength to reclaim what rightly belongs to us by effectively sensitizing our people on the need to vote for the party that will transform Nigeria.”

Some of those who attended the meeting were the governors of Kaduna State, Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa; Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema; Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso; Sokoto State, Aliyu Wammako; Kebbi State, Saidu Dakingari; minister of defence Haliru Muhammed Bello and minister of education Professor Ruqayyat Rufai.
