Bauchi State first female Professor of Micro-Biology, Prof. Fatima Jafar Tahir, has urged husbands to support their wives in furthering their education to enable them contribute immensely to the development of the society.?
Tahir, who made the appeal in an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP in Bauchi at the weekend,?noted that educated women would not only manage their homes better and inculcate good moral values to their wards, but also benefit the society tremendously.
Observing that societal norms were some of the barriers to women education in the north, she said, “When a woman is educated, you will be impressed with the way she tries to help her family. Because of that, I will advise parents that they should please allow their female children to go to school”.?????????????????
The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi-based professor further pointed out that although women were given adequate islamic education in the north, they needed some level of exposure to western education, even as she added that “by the time they combine the two, they (women) will be better mothers and they will also be better wives”.
She, however, cautioned housewives against irresponsibility, saying they should protect their integrity when they are given the chance by their husbands to further their education.?
