Following the loss of over 20 lives in a ghastly road accident along Tashar Dukku area of Gombe State, the House of Representatives has urged the federal government to extend the Gombe-Yola by-pass.
The lawmakers made this call yesterday while adopting the resolutions of a motion moved by Hon Usman Bello Kumo.
Kumo revealed that apart from the several people that died in the accident, more were lying critically injured and receiving medical attention at Gombe Federal Medical Centre.
According to him, “Since there is ongoing construction of a by-pass along the Gombe-Yola axis to ease the problem of traffic congestion around the area, an extension of another by-pass to cover the Kano-Yobe axis will minimise the case of road accidents in that part of the country.”
Apart from directing the federal ministry of works to extend the Gombe-Yola by-pass currently under construction to a ring-road that serves commuters from Kano-Yobe axis, the legislators also decided to send a delegation to commiserate with the government and people of Yobe State over the incident.
