Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has described the decision by President Goodluck Jonathan to present an amendment bill before the National Assembly to facilitate a single tenure of office for executive office holders as immoral and ridiculous.
According to the party, the action negates the noble intention of the drafters of the current constitution, which it said makes it compulsory for office holders to return to the people to renew their mandate as an incentive to meritorious performance and good Governance.
A statement made available by the CPC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, said that since the current constitution guaranteed two terms for presidents and governors, the move would cause needless shift in the focus of governance.
The party said that though the president predicated his proposal on patriotic zeal but “unfortunately, the priors of the president as a public officer do not show a man that should ever be trusted.”
