The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday received MT Allegra, a vessel seized last year with a 25-man crew on board at Forcados, which had sailed without proper documentation.
The delivery to EFCC was made by Naval Services, NNS Delta, at the EFCC office. At handing over ceremony at the Warri Naval Base, the Warri Naval Commander, Commodore Bum Stephen Kor explained that the vessel and its 25-member crew were arrested by one of its ships, NNS Zara, during a patrol at the Forcados entrance.
Cdr. Kor said at the time the navy arrested the vessel, the EFCC could not immediately take possession of the vessel, and so NNS, Delta kept custody of the vessel.
“One of our ships, NNS Zara was on patrol and she arrested Marshal Tanker Allegra at Forcados entrance without notified papers or documents. The vessel with a 25-man crew was subsequently handed over to the EFCC for investigation and possible prosecution on the 30th December 2010”, he said.
