The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Dahiru Musdapher yesterday said contrary to speculations in some national dailies that? 25 out? of the 29 members of the Judicial Reform Committee comprising? signed the report of the committee.
In a press statement signed by the National Judicial Council (NJC) Deputy Director of Publicity, Mr Soji Oye on behalf of the CJN said it is not true that only 14 members of the committee signed its report.
Soji? said “the Secretariat of the Committee is however constrained to inform the public that on December 15, 2011 when the Report was submitted to the Chief Justice of Nigeria by the Chairman of the Judicial Reform Committee,? Justice M. L. Uwais,? it was signed by 25 Members and not only 14 as reported by and advertised in some dailies”.
The CJN who doubles as Chairman of the National Judicial Council said, for avoidance of doubt, the list containing the names and signatures of the Members that signed the Report at the time it was submitted to him on December 15, 2011 can be verified from the Report in his office.
“It was reported and advertised in some newspaper? that the following distinguished Members of the Judicial Reform Committee -? Justice S. M. A. Belgore,? Justice A. I. Katsina-Alu, Justice Kayode Eso, Justice Umaru A. Kalgo, Chief Richard O. Akinjide( SAN), Justice? Bola Ajibola (SAN), Mr. J. B. Daudu (SAN), Chief Wole Olanipekun ( SAN), Mr. O. C. J. Okocha (SAN), Mr. Olisa Agbakoba (SAN) and Mr. Oluwarotimi? Akeredolu, (SAN) refused to sign the Report”.
