A 20-year-old woman, Joy James, on Thursday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates' Court for allegedly parading herself as a policewoman.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Isiaka Ajadi, alleged that the accused on Feb. 29, in Osogbo, “did parade herself as a policewoman, knowing same to be false”.
Ajadi told the court that the accused was found with some police kits, including one warrant card and a police cardigan.
He said that the offence was contrary to section 110(1) and 109(B) of the Criminal Code Cap. 34, Vol 11, Laws of Osun State, 2003 and punishable under the same section of the law.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two count-charge, and her Counsel, Mr Okobe Najite, requested for her bail.
Najite, in his oral application for the bail of his client, said the alleged offence was admissible to bail in accordance with section 118 of the state's Criminal Procedure Act 2003.
He urged the court to grant bail to the accused in liberal terms, assuring the court that the accused would not jump bail if granted.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Adewumi Makanjuola, upheld the request of the counsel, and granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.
Makanjuola said the surety should have traceable address within the jurisdiction of the court and should provide two clear passport photographs to the court.
The case was adjourned to May 4, for hearing.
