An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 19-year-old man, Mohammed Jamilu, to two months imprisonment for stealing a handcuff belonging to the police.
Senior Magistrate Nkwadimi Buba, who convicted Jamilu as he pleaded guilty, however, gave him an option of fine of N5000.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Abiola Oyewusi, had told the court that Jamilu committed the crime on Jan. 25 at Ikwa Village in Zuba, Abuja.
He said that the convict on the midnight of Jan. 25 stole? one police jacket, one police handcuff and two motor batteries.
The prosecutor said that the convict stole the items from one Myamson Esuan, a police officer, attached to the Zuba Police Station.
Oyewusi said that the offence contravened sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code.?
