The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday swore in five new resident commissioners in Abuja.
The new commissioners are Prof. Jato Jacob from Nasarawa State, Mr. Olusegun Agbaji from Ekiti, Barrister Austin Okogie from Edo, Nasir Olarenwaju from Kwara State and Baba Abba Yusuf from Borno State.
INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega, admonished the new commissioners to eschew any act of partisan politics in the discharge of their duties and handle issues within their domain with utmost professionalism.
“You are coming at a time INEC is drawing lessons from governorship elections conducted recently. You are coming at an appropriate time when we need to put our heads together and move the commission forward,” Jega affirmed.
Responding on behalf of other commissioners, Barr. Austin Okogie from Edo State promised that the new helmsmen would discharge their functions with utmost responsibility considering the sensitivity of election matters in the country.
