Young and talented – Ekiti State born but Benin, Edo State based female R B and Hip Hop artist, Olabisi Remilekun aka D-Godes has noted that despite the stiff competition in the industry, music is the weapon with which she hopes to join Nigerian youths in expressing themselves and attain stardom.
The Diploma degree holder in Hotel Management from the School of Aviation, Accra Ghana who said she has acquired relevant training in various Church choirs and since her entrant into professional music in 2008, said she opted to release two of her tracks; Touch My Body and Two Fingers as a way of making an inroad into the Nigerian music market.
While lamenting that existing record labels are not encouraging upcoming musicians, D-Godes said like most successful musicians in the country, she is finishing work on her complete album, which is scheduled for release in May, 2011 and also, the video of her promotional track; Touch My Body on her record label, D-Godes Record Label.
According to her, she hopes to engage the services of experts in the music industry to put in place necessary structures that would allow her make an impact in the music industry where she says she wish to contribute more fun and joy to Nigerians.
She encourages every talented musicians in Nigeria to take up the challenge of pushing their work into the market, “if we continue to wait for someone to come to our aid, we may never be able to express ourselves.
In fact, if the likes of Timaya, Tu Face and others never tried, they may never have been stars today”.
She urge operators in the music industry to give upcoming musicians a chance to express themselves as a way of bringing fresh air into the industry and also to give music lovers a new flavour.
