After two weeks of voting, the winners for the first-ever Social
Web Addicts in Media, Business and Entertainment (Sowambe Awards) for Social
Media have been announced.
According to one of the organisers, Francis Oghuma, Sowambe, an
acronym, “means “are you there?” in Yoruba language. So we’re asking: Are you
there? Are you in the social media space? Are you a social web addict?”
Sowambe Awards recognises and celebrates the best social media
adopters, talents, celebs, brands, professionals as well as social web
platforms in Nigeria.
The Awards has about 25 categories and allows participants to
nominate and vote online for a period of one month for their favourites, based
on a clear understanding and good judgment on activities in the social web’.
Below is the list of top social web addicts in Media, Business
and Entertainment for the last one year:

Upcoming singer Zara and Chocolate City rapper/producer Jesse
Jagz were alleged to have engaged in a make-out session in the rest room of GET
Arena, Lekki, two weekends ago.
The incident reportedly took place at the ‘One Night Stand’
event with Chocolate City rapper Jude ‘M.I’ Abaga, organised by 1 music
networks.
According to the report which was published on thenet.ng.com,
the young acts made their way to the rest room ‘and while they were having a
nice time, the Club’s manager reportedly caught them and embarrassed them
seriously, bringing their happy moment to a premature halt”.
In a telephone interview with the entertainment website, Zara
who is currently a Radio presenter at Rhythm FM dispelled the rumour.
“I was at GET Arena for M.I’s One Night stand, that’s no secret
but the making out story is very funny. Tell your source I said ‘Hi’,”Zara said
laughing off the story.
Jagz, however, did not respond to repeated phone calls and SMS
sent to his phone.

Ukoh 2Shotz star in “My Vote Fit Change Naija”
As a build up to the April general elections, “My Vote Fit
Change Naija”, a short film directed by Alex Mouth and produced by Kingsley
Bangwell and Julius Agwu has been launched.
The launch took place in Abuja on March 3, 2011 at the Rockview
Hotel, Abuja.
The initiative is part of a non-partisan citizen-led initiative
by the Youngstars Foundation in partnership with the Julius Agwu Foundation for
Youth (JAFFY). The project is funded by National Democratic Institute (NDI)
with support from USAID.
The film is a simple reminder of the challenges and struggles
that Nigerians face each day due to the lack of infrastructure and deep malaise
of our public system including the health, education and power sectors and
stars comedian Julius Agwu, actress Adaora Ukoh, musician 2Shotz and Yomi
Onanuga.
“My Vote Fit Change Naija” is available for view on YouTube,
while screenings will be held across the country between now and the elections
in April. In addition, DVDs/VCDs will also be distributed for free. To promote
the cause, the Youngsters Foundation and JAFFY have introduced the Best Use of
Video Youth Challenge 2011. One voting advocate will win an all-expense paid
trip to United Kingdom sponsored by Julius Agwu.
To contest, entrants are required to use the video to conduct a
voting awareness activity in any part of Nigeria between March 5th and April
15th 2011. Interested participants should visit www.youngstars-foundation.org
