Officials of the Lagos State Taskforce on Environment and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit stormed Ikoyi area of Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria and arrested 86 illegal squatters, food vendors and aliens in the area.
The exercise was carried out based on security reports the illegal squatters in uncompleted buildings in the area posed, while residents of Ikoyi have also been complaining about the activities of the squatters.Taskforce chairman, Bayo Sulaiman and the Divisional Police Officer, Ikoyi Police State led the raid which lasted between 10.00pm and 12 am.
Those arrested were found in abandoned houses, food vendors and aliens. Illegal squatters in the area have been suspected to be part of the criminals terrorising the Ikoyi vicinity.They were arrested at No. 3 Lugard Street, Bedwell Street, Glover Street and three different sports on the same street and three different spots in Parkview Estates.
Those arrested were taking to the Taskforce office at Alausa in a Black Maria.
Taskforce Chairman, Sulaiman, when contacted by by our correspondent confirmed that 86 illegal squatters, food vendors and alliens were arrested.
According to him, those arrested were those selling and inhibiting abandoned buildings, derelict shanties and those hibernating within the premises of uncompleted buildings.
