The Rivers Government will generate 700 megawatts of electricity before the end of its tenure, says Gov Chibuike Amaechi.
Amaechi told newsmen in Port Harcourt on Friday about N72 billion would be required to achieve the feat.
He promised that the government would make electricity available to the people, adding however, that distribution constituted a challenge.
According to him, the state needs only 400 megawatts, while the remaining 300 megawatts will be distributed? to consumers who have the capacity to pay.
Commenting on the alleged abandonment of the Shopping Mall constructed by former Gov Celestine Omehia, the governor said that further payment on the project would be a waste of fund.
“The former governor awarded that project at N3 billion and had paid N2.5 billion.? The money ought to have completed that project.
“We will not spend public money unnecessarily.”
He expressed displeasure that the Mile One market constructed by his administration had not been opened for use and urged the state's Ministry of Works to allow traders to occupy the market.
“We have released all the money needed to make the market function. I want to see that the market is opened”, ?he said.
