The Executive Director of Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre(CISLAC), Mr. Auwal Rafsanjani, has attributed the delay in the passage of the 2012 budget to a deliberate ploy by the executive arm of government to frustrate the nation’s economic growth.
Rafsanjani, who alleged this during an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP yesterday, added that the development may also have been a tacit fight-back plan by the executive to protest legislators’ insistence that bloated overheads be expunged from the budget.
According to him, the delay is needless and demonstrates the extent to which policies could go in order to feather their nests.?
“As you know, we have been able, in collaboration with the National Assembly, to point out several frivolities in the overheads in the 2012 budget, so that we can actually face the issues that affect the people. The National Assembly critically looked at that budget proposal by the executive, and felt that there were too many frivolities. As a result, they were all cut off.
“I believe that, by now, any serious government ought to have got its budget ready.
