A fake lawyer, BasseyEkpo, 32, was on Thursday arraigned before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court for “false’’ impersonation.
Ekpo, who resides at Better Life Street, Gwagwalada, Abuja, was arraigned on a two count charge of false impersonation and forgery.?
Prosecutor Andrew Achineje told the court that on March 23, one Omokide Mustapha of Ayo Omokide Chambers, Gwagwalada, reported the accused to the Police.?
Achineje said that the accused addressed himself as a lawyer when he appeared before a Gwagwalada High Court.
He told court that during investigations, the accused presented his “Call to Bar and Bar Finals Certificates’’ dated 2009, which were sent to the Supreme Court of Nigeria for verification.?
Achineje told the court that the verification revealed that the certificates were fake and that accused name was not on the list of lawyers called to the Nigerian Bar in 2009.?
He said that the offence contravened Sections 179 and 364 of the Penal Code.?
Ekpo pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Okeagu Azubike, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to May 9 for continuation. (NAN)
