Hundreds of commercial motorcycle riders popularly known as ‘Achaba’ took to the streets in Dutse Jigawa state in protest against the new law that? directed them to be registered and wear reflector jackets.
The aggrieved Achabamen who staged a peaceful demonstration,? had barricaded the major roads in the central city forcing their colleagues wearing the jackets to remove it or they won’t be allowed to operate.
The protest has created confusion and disorder in the city while some people have become alarmed especially going by the current security challenges in the country.
Also, LEADERSHIP SUNDAY gathered that, it took anti-riot police some hours to disperse the protesters to prevent the breakdown of law and oder in the city.
One of the protesters, Hassan Farouk told LEADERSHIP SUNDAY that they were protesting because the police are being used to harass them just because of reflector jackets.
“The jackets are not available and there is serious heat in the air now and they want us to wear another jacket over our clothes, we will not accept it”.
The chairman of the association Alhaji Abbas Fagoji however, expressed dismay over the demonstration which according to him, is against the union law.
