The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), has stated that Gen Muhammadu Buhari remains a quintessential patriot in Nigeria.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP, the party stated that the perspicacity of Gen Buhari’s statement recently over the state of the nation is an alert to Nigerians about the precipitous governance of the nation by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last two years over the pauperisation of the Nigerian citizenry.
The party said that it was not perturbed by a recent attack on the national leader of the party, Gen Buhari by the PDP,? through? a statement made by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Metuh Olisa,? who called Gen Buhari a despot.
CPC in a reaction to the statement made by the PDP about Gen Buhari’s personality condemned the name it brandished the leader of the party. The National Publicity Secretary, Engr Rotimi Fashakin who signed the statement said that, “Our attention has been drawn to the statement accredited to the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Metuh Olisa, wherein he grotesquely characterised our national leader, Gen Muhammadu Buhari as a despot.
Whilst we are not perturbed by the persistent and scurrilous attacks by the PDP on our national leader, Gen Muhammadu Buhari, it is a matter of concern that an individual such as Olisa who emerged as his party’s spokesman from an intimidating and autocratic process would be the author of such insidious and disparaging attack on the quintessential patriot of our generation, Gen Buhari.
Never in the nation’s history of over 50 years had such gross ineptitude and rapacity, with least respect for transparency, been evinced as this PDP-led government. The Nigerian people have watched with disgust, the plundering of their common patrimony by a mindlessly sleazy regime; the institutions of state have become corrupted in such ludicrous manner as can be seen in the recent indictment of Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and the Ministry of Finance by the recent probe of the over N2.67 trillion nebulously expended on a bogey called fuel subsidy.
“With over N30 trillion accruing to the nation’s coffers in the last twelve years, five times more than the cumulative years of the nation’s existence and no commensurate infrastructural development, is it not time for real patriots to show concern as Gen Buhari had done? He did not say anything different from the expressed views of many other concerned Nigerians in view of the predatory approach of PDP to the opposition. Is it not time for people of good will anywhere under the nation-space to speak eloquently about the pollution of the democratic atmosphere by PDP’s persistent corruption of the electoral process? ”
? He further stated that, “We want to make it abundantly clear that the Nigerian nation is going through the most horrific phase of its evolution; the symptom of the decadence is when autocrats cast aspersion on leaders that have made their mark. However, as a party and an important stakeholder in Nigeria, we remain irrevocably committed to the evolution of the nation of our dream, where no man irrespective of tribe or religion is oppressed.”
