An Abuja high court has ordered the federal government to pay the sum of over N130 million as damages over the killing of one Mrs Doris Okere by a police officer on January 2011.
The court in its decision affirmed that the mony is expected to cover the funeral expenses of the deceased as well as other damages as prayed for by the plaintiff lawyer, Kalu Onuoha.
Part of the eight reliefs sought by the deceased husband and her one year old son includes a declaration of the court that the extra judicial killing of Mrs Okere was illegal, unconstitutional and gross abuse of the fundamental human right of the deceased.
The palntiffs? Mr Eugene Okere and Chidebere Okere also sought the court to declare that the killing of the deceased violated the right of her son who was just eight months as at the time of the incident the right to healthy upkeep.
