Empire Mates
Entertainment (EME) boss, Bankole Wellington aka Banky W has announced
that he would not be present at the Goodluck Jonathan concert scheduled
to hold today in Abuja. The artist took to his Twitter account on
Wednesday, March 23, 2011 to inform his followers that he would be
committing himself to the ?What About Us? cause; a movement formed by
respected youths to engage on public platforms, men and women aspiring
to occupy government offices come April 2011 on their plans for the
Nigerian youth. ‘‘4 the record I WILL NOT be performing @ the GEJ
Concert in Abj on the 25th. I’ll be at d what about us debate’’, Banky
W tweeted from his personal handle (@bankyw).
In the same vein
producer-entertainer Lanre Dabiri popularly known as eLDee clearly
disassociated himself from the Goodluck Jonathan campaign family on his
Face book page the same day as Banky W did. Eldee who has been very
involved with several advocacy groups wrote, in a note published on his
Facebook account, that himself and a couple of other artists including
D’banj, Tuface, M.I, P Square, Banky W, Duncan Mighty, Wizkid had
earlier scheduled a similar concert tagged ?Our Time’ to sensitise the
youth on the need to vote and most importantly guard their
votes.According to the hip-hop star, the TV commercial shot for the
‘Our Time’ concert was altered and paraded as ‘Goodluck Ebele
Jonathan’s Presidential Campaign Concert’. This was followed up with a
full-page newspaper advert in the Vanguard newspaper of Tuesday, March
22, 2011, displaying his picture and other aforementioned artists as headliners.
Now I was being
touted as a representative of the youth in support of the Goodluck
Ebele Jonathan presidential campaign. What’s even more interesting is
that Silverbird TV ran this new advert before and after the Dbanj
interview with Goodluck Jonathan, as if it were part and parcel of that
GEJ campaign initiative’, eLDee wrote.
I have never, and even more so now will never be a part of any
campaign for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, therefore please do not
expect me to be at the supposed concert’.

Nigeria becomes first African country to launch OK! Magazine
OK!Magazine, the
celebrity lifestyle with more than 50 million readers worldwide is set
to launch in Nigeria this year. The magazine which will be published in
Nigeria and printed in the United Kingdom will be distributed on news
stands in Nigeria and readers throughout the world can subscribe to the
magazine. OK! Magazine, owned by the independent publishers, Northern
Shell Worldwide, will be managed by Kamson Luxury Group, owned
and operated by famed entrepreneur Alexander Amosu. Kamson Luxury Group
is an acquisition company formed to launch luxury international brands
in Africa and its first acquisition is the OK! The magazine will be a
monthly publication and content will be 60% Nigerian celebrities on a
global scale, whilst just 20% of the 60% will be local Nigerian
celebrities in Nigeria. The remaining 40% is divided into 30% African
American celebrities such as Will Smith and Oprah and the remaining 10%
will be the usual celebrities we love to read about such as Paris
Hilton and David Beckham. According to Amosu, “Nigeria is probably one
of the most vibrant, affluent countries in Africa, a nation with this
juxtaposition of poverty and immense wealth; a style leader for Africa
that continues to shine despite hardships and negativity that try to
mar its progress.
I am honoured to
bring OK! Magazine to Nigeria and I am convinced that the publication
will enjoy great success.” The new magazine is the latest addition to
the 22 editions of OK! Magazine worldwide. OK! UK, OK! USA, OK! Dubai
and OK! Australia already exists with several others in the works. This
is indeed a great achievement for Nigeria.
