Ms Arunma Oteh, the Director-General, Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), was on Tuesday re-elected as the Chairperson of Africa/Middle East Regional Committee (AMERC) of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO).
A statement from the commission in Abuja said Oteh, the Nigerian candidate, was returned unopposed as the chairperson of the organisation at the ongoing IOSCO meeting taking place in Beijing, China.
It said that also returned unopposed was the Vice Chairman of the regional committee, Mr Hassan Boulaknadal, who is the Chief Executive Officer of the Moroccan capital market regulatory authority.
The statement reads in part: “in view of the new strategic direction of the IOSCO, Oteh and Boulaknadal automatically become members of its Transitional Board, the highest policy making body of the organisation.
“Having served as Chairperson of the regional committee for a two-year term, Oteh had expressed the intention to re-contest the position for another term, with the expiration of the initial term.’’
The International Organisation of Securities Commissionswas established in 1983 to standardise? the industry worldwide and currently has over 100 ordinary members.
