Unknown gunmen yesterday? launched another attack on a bakery in Udiya area of Mafa Local Government Area of Borno State, killing no fewer than six persons and wounding others.
An eyewitness, also a baker, who spoke to British Broadcasting Corporation BBC (Hausa Service), monitored in Kaduna, said this was the second attack they had experienced in the bakery factory this year.
The source who did not disclose his name said the gunmen killed six people and left six with bullet wounds, in addition to making away with a considerable amount of cash from the victims.
Lieutenant Colonel Sagir Musa, Commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) in Maiduguri, confirmed the attack.
“We were told around 2:30am that gunmen have attacked an area in the outskirt of Maiduguri, Udiya, area of Mafa LGA. By the time we rushed to the area, we met only two people dead and another two with bullet wounds,” he said.
LEADERSHIP recalls that a bakery factory was attacked in the recent past in Maiduguri where five persons were killed.
In a related development, threepolicemen, one of them a senior officer, were yesterday shot dead in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital by suspected assassins.
The senior Police officer is said to be the officer-in-charge of the Anti- Robbery Squad in Calabar, Cross River State.
The incident happened at about 5 pm along Aka road close to the popular Ibom Plaza.
The assassins were said to have trailed the security personnel in a Hilux van, blocked off their patrol car along the Aka road and shot them at close range.
