Kogi government has reduced the cost of treating pregnant women and children in all public hospitals in the state.
The State Governor, Idris Wada, stated this on Monday in Ugwolawo, in Ofu Local government Area, at the inauguration of the 2012 maternal, newborn and child health week.
He said the details of the reduction would soon be made public.
Wada, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, said the move was aimed at stemming the high rate of maternal and infant mortality in the state which, he said, was becoming worrisome.
He said the state government was already exploring new ways of providing strong network of health services to meet the needs of women and children.
Wada said his administration was committed to meeting the health requirements in critical areas such as nutrition, reduction in communicable diseases and access to essential drugs, safer drinking water and improved sanitation.
?He promised that emphasis would now been placed on continuous training of health personnel in the state owned hospitals.
The governor also appealed to people in rural communities to make the best use of modern facilities being provided by the government.
