Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) and governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have condemned the gruesome murder of? the chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the state, Elder Julius Nwaofu.
Nwaofu was killed by unknown gunmen at 8.00 pm within the Obiri-Ikwerre axis of the East-West as he was coming into Port Harcourt from the airport after he returned from Lagos.
Amaechi, in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, David Iyofor, decried the dastardly act, describing it as “wicked and atrocious at this time in the life of our nation and Rivers State.”
While consoling the bereaved family and ANPP members, the governor made it clear that the police must get to the root of the murder.
He directed that all security agencies in the state must work assiduously to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are caught and brought to book.
Amaechi said; “As a state government we will ensure that the security agencies do not relent until the criminals behind this heinous act are captured and face the full wrath of the law.”
On its part, the PDP in a statement signed by its publicity secretary in the state, George Ukwuoma-Nwogba, condemned the murder of the ANPP chieftain, describing it as an ill-wind that blows nobody any good.
The statement said, “The PDP condemns the murder of Elder Julius Nwaofu, an easy-going politician who committed himself to the growth of democracy in Rivers State. We could not have imagined this abrupt end to his sprawling life when the PDP-led administration in the state is doing its utmost to give the people a conducive environment to excel in their professions.
