The Nigeria Union of Local Government Employee (NULGE) has lauded Governor Ibrahim Shehu Shema of Katsina state for approving the implementation of new minimum wage to local government workers in the state “and ensuring prompt payment of staff salaries”.
Katsina state NULGE president, Comrade Aliyu Haruna who made the commendation in a press briefing noted that the new wage has remarkably improved the quality of lives of workers at the local government levels.
“The government’s decision to not only approve the implementation of the N18,000 minimum wage, but to also adhere strictly to policy of prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements to workers has assisted greatly in ensuring stability and cordial labour relations in the state”
“The new minimum wage has improved the living standard of workers in the state and this is reflected in the way and manner in which workers at different levels conduct their duties” he added.
Haruna who assured of the union’s commitment to support laudable programmes and policies of government urged members to “reciprocate government’s gesture by showing commitment and dedication to duties and loyalty to the present administration.”
“The union wishes to identify with the governor’s accountable, prudent and transparent handling of the public funds at all levels of government in the state” Haruna enthused.
He was however quick to appeal to the state government to look into the issues of some staffs whose salaries were reportedly put on hold following the recent members of staff verification exercise conducted in the state.
