African 400 metres hurdles women champion, Ajoke Odumosu is optimistic that her performance in the London 2012 Olympic Games will be better than the just concluded Africa Athletics Championship in Port-Novo, Benin Republic. She said she wants to also improve on her Beijing Olympics outing.
Odumosu told LEADERSHIP SPORTS exclusively that her target was to win medal for the country and surpass her current form. “It is good going out there having competition and racing back on the African soil in Port Novo, Benin Republic and try to regain my title. It is wonderful given out my best coming out top at the end of the race. I am ready for the London 2012 which is going to start in few days, because those I am going to compete with in this year’s Olympics are not new to me, I have competed with them before now in some few Diamond league meetings as well as Grand Prix in Europe, Asia, South America and some African countries.
“As I am preparing they too are getting ready for the event. I know I have been training really hard and I also know that they are also doing their best as well. We are going there to give it to each other but I am hoping to get to the final and once in the final anything can happen”.
Odumosu said that 4×100 metres relay is another race that would give Nigeria hope of winning a medal. “Relay is a pool and as you know, everybody will have to make their impact. As you know, a tree cannot make a forest. Our girls are really doing well because I did not run in 4×100 relay and without me they were able to break the African record which is a good thing.”
