Gov. Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna State on Wednesday urged stakeholders to assist government to resuscitate the education sector in the state.
Yakowa made the appeal when he received members of the Board of Trustees of Zaria Education Development Association (ZEDA), who visited him in Kaduna.
He said the poor standard of education in the state necessitated the need for stakeholders to contribute their quota to improve its standard.
“Government alone cannot do everything, especially in the health and education sector. We need the support of stakeholders to complement government’s efforts.''
He decried the poor response of companies to discharge their corporate social responsibilities, adding that the State Government would find ways of encouraging them to live up to expectations.
Yakowa said the State Government would continue to support non-governmental organisations in their quest to complement government’s efforts.
He commended the association for its support in the education sector and urged other associations to emulate it.
The governor assured the association of his support to enable it successfully marks its 20-year anniversary.
Earlier, the chairman of the association, Alhaji Abdullahi Nuhu, said the association had slated Dec. 8, for its 20-year anniversary.
Nuhu said the association was established to help in the development of education in Zazzau Emirate.
He said the association had since its formation embarked on community-based programmes through intense mobilisation and direct involvement of the various communities to contribute its quota to complement government’s efforts. (NAN)
