Following the flooding of many communities in Adamawa, the state House of?Assembly has constituted a committee to ensure adequate attention to the displaced people.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that many communities were ravaged?by flood water released ?from Laddo Dam in?Cameroon.
The state assembly, during its deliberations on the matter on Monday, urged members of the National Assembly from the state ?to take up the matter.
They noted that?the disaster?claimed many lives and property in seven local government areas of the state.
In his contribution,? Alhaji Sadiq Ibrahim (PDP-Fufore/Gurin) said that?his constituency was the most hit because it shares borders with Cameroon.
“In some villages like Wuro-Bokki, dead bodies of human beings and animals were sighted floating in the river.
“Since 1982 when Cameroon constructed this dam, the destruction of lives and farmland from water being released from the dam has been a recurring phenomenon.”
The lawmaker urged the Federal Government to intervene and take up the matter with the Cameroonian authorities.
Also speaking,? Mr Kwamoti Laori, (PDP-Numan) said that nine out of 10 wards in his constituency were affected by the flood.
“Houses and farmlands were affected. I don't know how people affected are going to survive,” Laori lamented.
Mr Michael Zidon (PDP- Lamurde) said that two wards in his constituency were submerged.
“The people are taking refuge in a primary school which is under threat from the flood,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Adamawa Government has summoned an emergency with the acting chairmen of the affected local government areas.
The affected local governments were??Yola North, Yola South, Girei, Fufore, Numan, Lamurde, and Demsa.? (NAN)
