An Oshodi Magistrates’ Court in Lagos on Thursday remanded at the Kirikiri Prisons, a ?commercial motorcyclist who pleaded guilty to stealing a motorcycle .
Magistrate Olagbegi Adelabu remanded Musa Liadi (27), after he admitted that he stole a motorcycle given to him on hire purchase by one Mr Jamiu Shittu.
Shittu was arraigned on a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining a motorcycle under false pretence.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde, said that the defendant committed the offences on Sept. 2 at Mafoluku in Oshodi area of Lagos.
He noted that the motorcycle, valued at N150,000, was marked EPE 120 QB.
Olatunde said that the defendant had agreed to be paying N8,000 weekly to the owner but failed to do so.
?”After four days, the complainant (Shittu) saw him chatting with friends under a bridge in Oshodi and he asked him why he was not at work.
?”The accused said he had an accident and that a man rescued him but he did not see the motorcycle or the man when he stood up,” the prosecutor submitted.
?Olatunde said that the accused refused to take Shittu to the scene of the accident.
“He claimed that he could not remember where the accident took place. He would say Mafoluku and later Ilupeju; he is not consistent,’’ he said.
The prosecutor said that the defendant attempted to abscond but was apprehended in an Ibadan-bound commercial bus.
He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 321 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The court adjourned the case till Sept. 28 for fact and sentencing. (NAN)
