Ondo State Governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko has described his opponents in the October 20, governorship election in the state as selfish and unprepared candidates.
The governor who declared that governance is a serious business, took a swipe at opposition parties in the State, describing their attempt to downplay his government’s numerous developmental projects in the State as an admission of their selfishness.
Mimiko spoke yesterday in Igbara Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area of the State in continuation of his re-election campaign tour and advised the people of the area to vote for the Labour Party for better government attention.
He described his contenders as emergency governorship candidates and enemies of the people only out to contest for selfish reasons, warning the people not to follow them.
Mimiko, who commissioned several projects at the local government, scored himself high in all departments of governance saying that his government had fulfilled its promises to the people of the State. He noted that any government which cannot impact positively on the lives of its people within a short time is not a good government.
According to him, “We are in government for the people and to ensure that the lives of our people are better for it. Any government which does not do anything about the children and mothers health is not a good government. Cases of children dying were rampant because of inadequate health care services.
“But in Ondo State today, there are no more Kokumos (ogbanje) in Ondo State. Thus, when we got to office, we started Abiye (Safe motherhood) Programme here in Ifedore. And in three years, Nigeria, and the whole world has seen what we are doing; today, our Mother and Child Hospital model is not only the best in Nigeria but a template for Africa”.
He promised the people that when voted in for a second term, his party would construct the Ifedore township roads in addition to the projects that have been executed and others at various stages of completion.
