FG Approves Kogi Govt’s Plans To Relocate Flood Victims To Estates

Mr Yomi Awoniyi, the Deputy Governor of Kogi, said that the Federal Government had approved plans to relocate some flood victims to Federal Government Housing Estates in Ajaokuta and Lokoja.

The deputy governor disclosed this in a statement issued by his Press Secretary, Mr Michael Abu, in Lokoja on Sunday.

Awoniyi, who made this known when he received NUJ executives in his office, said?that the state government had secured?alternative accommodation for?people?who could not use the facilities of existing camps set up for flood victims.

He commended the Federal Government for approving the state government’s plans to use some of the abandoned buildings in Ajaokuta and the Federal?Housing Estate in Lokoja to accommodate the flood victims.

Besides, Awoniyi said that alternative camps would be set up in Idah to accommodate some displaced persons who were currently occupying some schools.

Earlier, in his speech, Mr Ali Atabor, the state NUJ Chairman, commended the state government for its efforts to alleviate the suffering of the?flood victims.

Atabor, however, appealed to some people, who pretended to be flood victims in a plot to benefit from the relief materials, to have a change of heart?and?stop frustrating the good intentions of the government.(NAN)
