Nasarawa state governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura yesterday celebrated his 60th birthday with students of Government science school Nasarawa Eggon and Government Science Secondary School, Lafia, with a promise to elevate the schools to a Comprehensive Colleges for better teaching and learning.
Al-Makura who addressed the students revealed that the schools would be among the three his administration plans to upgrade, in addition to Government College Keffi, to enable them serve as premier schools in their respective zones.
According to him, the idea to elevate them was informed by his desire to make all children in the state to have qualitative learning process to enable them develop a better future. He said, clinics, water boreholes, science laboratory equipment in addition to new subjects of studies shall be introduce? in the schools .
Arts and commercial subjects shall be introduced with the student enrolment expected to increase by one third in the schools. In order to ensure high standard of education, his administration intends to partner with expatriate teachers in addition to recruiting qualified teachers? to engender quality education.
He urged the students to continue to exhibit high sense of discipline and responsibility to enable the become better citizens in the future. He directed the states ministry of works to make all necessary arrangements towards fixing the dilapidated assembly halls and domitories in the respective schools.
