Judges Want Use Of ICT For Quick Dispensation Of Justice

A cross section of participants at the Conference of All Nigeria Judges of Lower Courts on Tuesday called for the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for quick dispensation of justice.

The participants made the suggestion in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Mohammed Yayajo, an Upper Area Court judge, Bajoga, Gombe State, said the application of ICT in the operation of the court was apt.

“I am certainly appreciative because it will help us in our proceedings in terms of quick dispensation of justice,” he said.

Another participant, Magistrate Regina Basi, of Yahei Magistrates` Court in Cross River, also said that the efforts would go a long way in assisting the judges in the process of adjudication.

She, however, said that, “of course, I expect the technologies to be on ground.”

On her part, Chief? Magistrate Tessi Ansa-Agho, of? Calabar, Cross River, said the theme of the conference was apt.

She said that it came at the time the judiciary needed basic reforms in the area of? the application of ICT in the administration of justice.

“Personally, I have keyed into it and most of the times if I have judgment or ruling to deliver, I will just type-in the topic, pick out what I want and I keep on updating it.

“So that is how it is supposed to be and it will make justice dispensation easier, quicker, faster, enjoyable and convenient,” she said.

She advised other participants in the conference to pay attention and make the best use of the knowledge acquired.

The topic of the conference was “Application of Information and Communication Technology in the Court: the Role of Court Employers.''
